  1. I truly enjoyed reading the author’s journey towards perminent weight loss. She is inspirational. While I am not a candidant for Bariatric Surgery the suggestions in the book have inspired me to begin my own journey. I have especially used the hints on the resource page.

The Rest of the Truth is a must read for anyone who seeks guidance and encouragement in your own personal struggle for resolution of your weight problem.

I sincerely appreciate so much honesty and openness in the telling of what happened in Pam and Al’s lives. This amazing story communicates love of God and family and Pam’s desire to motivate others who may be traveling similar paths she and Al traveled. Pam’s words of wisdom opened my eyes to many aspects of the psychological games we all play as we struggle for balance and peace in our lives concerning weight loss and maintenance.

For every negative I can come up with, Pam has a wonderful positive to take its place. For example, I complain that I have no willpower; Pam shows a way to turn this negative into a positive by using the term `skill power’. If I don’t have to worry about willpower, I can use my time to learn new `skill powers’. There are so many positives in Pam’s vocabulary; she shows how God can help us to stay focused on positives. When we rely on God’s help and use the sound mind he gave us, we can move forward and fight the good fight in this battle of weight loss and maintenance, not just for a season, but for a lifetime.

The size of this book makes it easy to take along, to have handy to read whenever I have a few minutes free. The format affords easy access when I need to refer back to something particular.

Thank you, Pam and Al Harrelson, for a wonderful book that gives us such great insight and guidance.

  3. Thank you, thank you, thank you Pam Harrelson for your insightful, inspirational, and educated words regarding safe and effective weight loss.

Your ‘Key Words’ are an excellent source to understanding how our minds affect our weight and weight maintenance struggles.

Sharing your personal as well as professional experiences helped me understand that starting on the road to wellness can begin right now.

Your method proves that it’s simple subtraction – burn more energy calories than calories eaten. I’ve used this simple method for eight weeks and have lost five pounds. And by using the ‘averages’ tip I’m not mentally beating myself up anymore. Your book has freed me from the mental agony and dread of ‘dieting’.

This is NOT the usual diet or “fitness” book. As someone who had personal training sessions with PAM, this book helps the reader stay on track. Working out with PAM made me “accountable” to her and to myself and now that my sessions have ended, this book echoes the words that I heard during each session.

Keeping a “food diary” as to exactly what is eaten throughout the day has been life-changing because it makes us accountable once again. . . It is easy to justify that what is eaten, but as I approached my hungry time near the end of the day, writing down everything I had eaten was an eye-opener.

While I was at home, I could still hear Pam’s voice telling me to picture the fat that I would lose as 5 lbs. of “ground meat” and this visual “incentive” was so helpful. She stressed it is important to play “games” while exercising in order to alleviate boredom and I did this while walking on the TREADMILL. I broke my 40 min. walk down into 5 min. sections and would look at the number “8″ as I began. Then every 5 min. I would visually count backwards as I got closer to the number “1″ and reaching my goal.

I only needed to lose 20 lbs. but was unsuccessful for two years. She kept reminding me that losing this amount would not be done quickly and to be “patient” because weight seems to come off much faster on someone who wants to lose 90 lbs. . She reminded me that working out would replace fat with lean muscle tissue and so I was not discouraged when I seemed to hit a plateau . I was only maintaining but her words, “Maintenance is a victory” were so encouraging. It seemed slow but what I have lost has stayed off.

With her encouragement, I felt “empowered” that I can do this on my own. My training sessions have ended, but her words live on in this book that will help so many.
