Not only is this book an amazing diet book, it’s also so funny, touching and filled with interesting stories that it would make a great read for anybody – even if they’re not on a diet! Goldberg was the fast food king, and that’s what we’re really up against on a diet – that blankety blank oasis in the desert of fast food signs everywhere. And that’s where Goldberg shines – helping us figure out how to beat them at their own game!

I first read about Fats Goldberg’s diet in one of Calvin Trillin’s books. At the time, I said to myself, “That diet sounds like a pretty good idea. ” After finishing the Trillin book, it was always in the back of my mind, but I kept telling myself I would start the diet “soon”. Well, fast forward to April 20. I decided to get the book, and read it cover to cover in a day. It was truly an inspiring read. This book is different from other diet books in that it doesn’t promise easy results, or give you a timetable for weight loss. Fats instead dispenses practical adviec on how fat people can shed the pounds, and still feel good. I think of this book more as a lifestyle manual. Instead of just changing your eating habits, the book encourages you to change your lifestyle as well. It doesn’t make you restrict any food groups (except fat, of course, but you shouldn’t be having a lot of that anyway). Fats also doesn’t give you an exact blueprint. Instead, he tells you want worked for him, and encourages the reader to modify the plan as it suits him or her. Bottom line, this book works. Since I started following the tips, I have lost over 30 lbs. I feel great, and am confident I can keep it off. Go ahead and read this. The least it will cost you is the time it takes to read it. The benefits could be immeasurable.
