  1. My problem with this book is simple: if you set a caloric intake level strictly based upon a person’s gender and height, you are ignoring important factors such as height, current weight, BMR, and activity level. The author’s view is simplistic at best. If you are currently eating far too many calories, I have no doubt that you will be able to see short-term weight loss by following this program. But I have serious doubts about how well it would work long-term — if you eat at a steep caloric deficit for a long period, your weight loss will plateau — and will never see eye-to-eye with a “one size fits all” approach to weight loss. Ironically, the Diet Doc franchise apparently prides itself on individualized nutrition plans, so this book is puzzling.

  2. Laura Owen says:

I commend the authors for writing a good, solid health and fitness book. I believe that you will definitely improve your health by following the information in this book. That being said, I did not find anything in the book that I had not read somewhere else. That is the reason for the low rating.

  3. I have been following the plan laid out in this book for a little over two months now and have lost 20 pounds. Yes, tracking your macro-nutrients and reading labels is some work at first, but as you adjust to the portion sizes and what kinds of food to look for, it becomes easier.

This book may have advice that is common sense and laid out in other formats elsewhere, but I really liked the authors’ writing style and the way the information is presented. Plus, Dr. Uloth actually utilized this plan and was successful.

I’ve seen my food habits change, and I’ve still eaten things I like. I was also inspired to begin a fitness routine and feel better than I have in a long time!

  4. If you’ve tried to “eat right” and “exercise more” on your own only to end up disappointed when the scale won’t budge, buy this book! The authors say they want to teach you to become your own nutritionist, and that is what will happen once you read this book. I have been on this diet for a little over a month, and have lost 10 pounds. My husband has lost 16. The best part about this book is the “Diet Docs’ Rx,” which gives you a specific target range of calories and macronutrients (protein, carbs, fat). Then, if you’re not getting the results you want, the authors include troubleshooting information. They show you how to make this plan work for YOU. I’ve never read a book where I’ve learned so much about what happens inside my body nutritionally (and I’ve read a lot of health books. ) I’m not a “science person,” and yet I could understand what the authors were talking about completely. Plus, the authors keep things interesting with the occasional Star Wars reference and other lighthearted humor. (I mean, Star Wars references in a diet book? How cool is that?!) Also, the recipes are REALLY good. I haven’t tried one yet that I didn’t love. For anyone who’s familiar with Eating for Life, these recipes are just as good (maybe better?) but faster and easier! If you stick to the plan in this book, you WILL lose weight in a safe and healthy way.

  5. This is hands down the best diet book on the market. It teaches the reader to be thier own nutritionist and that is the only way to make long lasting changes! I’m a personal trainer that uses Dr. Joe and I require all my clients to read this book before we talk about nutrition.
