This is by far one of the “better” weight loss books that I have read. I was by no means obese but definitely could have stood to loose a few pounds and this book helped me do just that. I really like this book because it made “loosing weight” realistic. It had helpful hints and a step-by-step guide that can fit perfectly into my lifestyle. The author realizes his readers are people, people who probably have busy life’s, and yes losing weight is a priority but they don’t have 3 hours a day to devout to body building. This book gives you suggestions on how to improve your body one step at a time. It never made me feel overwhelmed and I am confident in my appearance.

I have had trouble losing weight for many years. The constant dieting and fad exercise equipment have not worked and left me feeling like a failure (with a larger waistline!). I finally found a reference that was easy to read and written in a way that was easy to understand. I read ‘Secrets to effective weight loss’ by Shaun Brodison over one weekend and found myself to be motivated to exercise and increase daily incidental activity (i. e. increasing the amount of physical movement during the day such as walking to the shops insead of driving my car, etc. ). This book has many photos that visually show the exercises so I started to exercise immediately. I really liked the photos and the fact that the model looked like a fit and healthy person rather than someone who looked false with plastic surgery. I also immediately implemented the 12 week program that has has worked wonders – i feel fitter and healthier than ever before.
I would like to thank Mr. Brodison for the fantastic book that he has written and the difference that it has made in my life. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and believe it to be an essential tool in the commencement of any weight loss program!

Shaun Brodisons book Secrets to effective weight Loss is an excellent volume to adopt as a weight loss bible. The book is well thought out and it is obvious that a lot of planning has gone into its layout in order to make this book exceptional as a guide. Its easy to understand language and well presented format sets it apart as a workbook. Brodison attacks the problems associated with weight loss programs by first dispelling the many myths that abound surrounding this topic. He then continues to explain how the body works to use fat as an energy source and reinforces what he has just explained with fitness tips following each topic mentioned. The use of tables to provide easy reference to such things as exercise regimens or muscle training exercises is consistent with his illustrative style. He talks about the three main body types those being Ectomorphs, Endomorphs and Mesomorphs and goes on to discuss how we should be making exercise a priority in our lives. After giving examples how to incorporate exercise seamlessly into our daily routine Brodison then introduces the topic of nutrition as the other key element to effective weight loss. Good nutrition is an essential part of weight loss and Brodison goes into detail to explain the complexities of the Glycaemic index of foodstuffs.
Measuring weight loss is similarly revealed with the same logical approach whether it be through girth measurements or the other measurements mentioned by Brodison, he continues to reveal the logic and sound reasoning supporting it. He also does not forget that weight loss is affected by many common medical conditions, each is mentioned in turn and solutions to their specific problems are discussed.
Brodison, in his visual style then introduces the Five Steps to weight loss including a training diary for the weight loss program. The weight loss program presented in his book is a twelve week course that significantly reduces body fat and it is followed by a maintenance program in order to keep the weight off. The program is in depth and a little complex but Brodison reduces this complexity by working with one month at a time. To conclude the book Brodison outlines the exercises with diagrams and photographs revealing all the essential groups such as stretches, back extensions, crunches, the use of the fitness ball and its exercises and finally floor based exercises and the use of weights.
As a Registered nurse I have seen many changes over the last thirty years dealing with weight loss programs and especially diets. Brodisons book is a welcome change from all the so called authority books on this subject which do not have the depth of understanding that Brodison displays in this small and easy to follow guide. Its layout is a credit to the author, the topics covered are extensive yet dealt with logically. The use of tables and illustrations help to provide instruction where words would not suffice. I enjoyed reading this book and thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking to lose weight or to merely regain a state of fitness.
