  1. I found the dishes to be very bland and boring. You seem to eat much of the same style of food. There is not much variety, just like most of the other diets on the planet. I did not prepare a single dish that ended up looking like the pictures in the book. I highly recommend The Zone diet. The dishes were easier to prepare and much more delicious. I lost 7 pounds in 20 days on the five square program. However, I lost 18 pounds on The Zone Diet.

I bought a copy of this book for myself and immediately got a second copy for my parents. I was raised on the 10 square plan. Actually, triangles. You know, in the shape of Doritos? I loved breads (bagels, challah, snack crackers). Not a big fan of sugary sweets, but certainly a carbo addict and snacker throughout the day. Lots of yummy empty calories. My snacks ran into the evening, and my weight showed it.

I got a copy of the book for my parents because they frequently eat late at night (like 10pm late). They are starting to change that habit and seeing results.

As I got older, I found my way to a better lifestyle. I think the right way to approach this book is just that. It just makes sense to smooth out the caloric intake to your body. I am an athlete and one of my regular sports is swimming. My coach talks about the “flywheel” you need to get going when you work out. Like an engine, you want your workout to get the metabolic “engine” going to the point where you are efficiently burning calories. “5 Square” is a way of fueling that engine without slowing it down or revving it into the red zone.

I came to five squares already having discovered what I needed to do to take care of my body. But the program has helped by providing me with the structure and discipline – recipes, balanced scheduled meals – to make that vision a reality.

    Great book and highly recommended.

I wanted to lose some baby fat and improve my eating habits and the recipes in this book helped me do just that! Monica Lynn’s tone in her writing is friendly and non-judgemental — that made a big difference to me. The recipes are incredibly easy and tasty. I highly recommend this book!

  4. This book/plan most definitely provides a healthy eating livestyle, however I felt that it is not attainable by most mere mortals. I have fluctuated over the years as to my eating habits (going “off the wagon” and eating processed foods), and when I need to get back on track to healthy eating, this is the type of program that usually appeals to me. However, I find that it is too restrictive and I can’t see remaining on it. Yes, you will be healthier and most likely thinner following this plan, but at what cost? Eating should be more pleasurable than this.

I purchased Monica Lynn’s book to help me create healthy meals for myself and my husband. I was surprised at how easy Monica’s meals are to create. I have lost 8 pounds and my husband has lost 17 pounds in 3 weeks! I am so thrilled! I have bought a ton of diet books over the years and I must say – this one works with ease. The recipes are so simple – I double them to save myself time with cooking. Lynn suggests saving the leftovers for the next days meals and portioning them out – brilliant. It is never easy to change ones eating habits and I must say – I rebelled at first. . . thankfully my husband is one of those people that get really focused and he motivated me to stay on track. I had sugar withdrawals the first 2 days as Lynn said I would. . . thankfully by day three I felt leaner and had more energy than I have had in years. This book is a no-brainer.
